Children aged 4 – 5 years are preparing for Grade R and developing key skills in language, cognitive abilities, social-emotional growth and physical coordination.

  • Language & Communication Development – Our learners continue to improve their language skills through storytelling. They learn that stories have a beginning, middle and end. They are also starting to recognize some letters through fun and creative activities.
  • Social & Emotional Development – In our Dalmatian and Puppy classes, group activities are encouraged, and conflict resolution is taught through stories and play. Learners continue to learn how to recognize and name different emotions.

  • Cognitive Development – Here learners develop reasoning, memory and basic academic skills. Teachers use math and memory games to teach counting, classifying and sorting and to encourage problem-solving.
  • Physical Development – Learners keep refining their movement, coordination and strength skills. They are taught the correct pencil grip and start to do a lot of creative artwork. Scissors are used to cut simple shapes. To improve gross motor skills, learners do balance exercises and throw, catch and kick during ball play activities.
  • Self-Help & Independence – At this age, students are expected to dress independently. They are taught hygiene routines in class and can go to the bathroom completely independently. Teachers also encourage responsibility by assigning classroom tasks.
